OMAHA, Neb. —
A farmer and a retired priest donated corn to those in need.
Each year Father Wayne Pavela gives the Food Bank for the Heartland about 15,000 pounds of fresh, locally-grown corn.
It comes from a 10-acre farm in Columbus.
It has provided fresh produce to thousands of Nebraskans for more than 30 years.
"I'm very blessed in that. I don't need the services that are provided by Food Bank for the Heartland, but I know more and more members of the community are. And so to be able to help support my neighbors indirectly just makes me feel like I'm more a part of my community," said Lynnette Zurek.
As food insecurities rise, the generous donation means the food bank can support more of those in need.
