ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WIS) - Family, friends and the law enforcement community continue to mourn the loss of a South Carolina state trooper killed in a crash last weekend.

Trooper First Class Dennis Ricks, 30, passed away Wednesday night, according to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety. Ricks was hit by a truck Sunday night after a traffic stop on Interstate 26 in Orangeburg County.

Ricks had been in critical condition at a North Charleston hospital before his death.

A procession for Ricks was also held on Friday along Interstate 26.

His family released an updated statement Friday via their legal counsel at the Goings Law Firm, saying he was “a devoted husband, son, and friend, and he wore the uniform because he believed deeply in serving others.”
