DOWNEY, Calif. (KABC) -- A 73-year-old woman was killed and a 24-year-old woman was rushed to a trauma center early Saturday after a vehicle plowed into a home in Downey, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 2:30 a.m. in the 9500 block of Gallatin Road, just west of the 5 Freeway. A 24-year-old Maywood man was driving a car eastbound on Gallatin Road when it crashed into the residence, according to the Downey Police Department.

The motorist was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, police said. His name was not released.

The 73-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was not injured, according to police.
