A year after his wife died, Antonio Marquez finally did something he swore he would never do without her. In June, he was aboard the Honor Flight of veterans to the nation's capital to visit the World War II Memorial.
Marquez had another big day in his long life Sunday, celebrating his 100th birthday with friends and family.
During the war, Marquez was in charge of LCMs, a military landing craft designed for carrying personnel and vehicles from ship to shore, and he took part in the invasion of the island of Guam in the South Pacific.
Marquez was the only WWII veteran aboard this year's Honor Flight. The majority of the estimated 66,000 WWII veterans still alive are in their 90s or older.
