CHICAGO — The Pirates have made yet another change to their pitching landscape. Manager Don Kelly announced Saturday afternoon that veteran left-hander Andrew Heaney will move from the starting rotation to the bullpen, where he will remain for the rest of the 2025 season.

“He’s here to help the team in any way possible,” Kelly said of Heaney. “We’re also trying to put him in a good spot to help us win games.”

A 34-year-old veteran with 10 years of big-league service time, the Pirates signed Heaney to a one-year, $5.25 million deal on Feb. 20, during spring training. He started the year strong, delivering a quality start in three of his first five outings. But his production began to regress dramatically as the season moved forward.
