K-9 Sully spent his 7th birthday on a successful search mission Monday, the Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) said.

After armed robbery suspects took off into a wooded area, Sully and his handler assisted in the search.

"Sully located a gun hidden in the brush - a significant find," CPD said in a Facebook post.

The victim in this robbery was not physically injured.

"Thanks to Sully and his handler that gun is now secured…before it could be found by a curious kid or another criminal. Just one example of how CPD units work together to protect our community. Thank you to Spike's K9 Fund and K9 Storm Inc for providing vests that help keep K9 Sully better protected."
