HOLDEN BEACH, N.C. ( WBTV /Gray News) - A tornado touched down at a North Carolina beach earlier this week.
According to the National Weather Service , the EF-0 tornado started as a waterspout over the Atlantic Ocean and moved onshore at Holden Beach on Thursday at about 5:45 p.m.
A preliminary report from the National Weather Service said the twister “very briefly occurred,” and that it caused minor tree and beach furniture damage.
Officials did not say how much time the tornado spent on the ground.
EF-0 twisters typically have wind gusts of 65-85 mph.
The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning that day, shortly before the twister made it to land. The warning was seemingly issued after the waterspout was spotted off the coast of neighboring Ocean Isle Beach.
