LAKE WACCAMAW, N.C. ( WECT /Gray News) - A North Carolina family is mourning the loss of their son after a deadly crash took his life.

Gary Landyn Jacobs died Thursday morning in a crash in Lake Waccamaw .

The 17-year-old was driving to work at 4 a.m. when his car hit a tree.

Josh Simmons, Jacobs’ uncle, says he was on his way to do the thing he loved, working at his family’s logging business.

“What he was going to do that morning ... he wanted to be in the logging woods, he was going to work,” Simmons said.. “Without a shadow of a doubt, anybody who knows Landyn knew he was going to be running a crew in the logging woods with his brother and daddy.”

Jacobs received medical care at the scene but died due to his injuries.

His family says he was saving up money before heading back
