STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Milder temperatures on Saturday provided a perfect opportunity for children and adults to enjoy a summer afternoon at Clay Pit Ponds State Park Preserve in Charleston.

Audrey Litto, an environmental educator, was on hand to organize various activities for children and answer questions for the more than 40 people who attended the event.

Children had an opportunity to cool off in kiddie pools, sprinklers and a misting fan. Indoors, children could be seen playing with puppets, drawing pictures with watercolors, and building with wooden blocks.

The environmental center was filled with the sounds of laughter as children chased each other around.
