YORK, Maine — A 36-year-old motorcyclist is dead after an accident with a car in York Friday evening, according to a news release from police.

At 6:24 p.m., York police responded to multiple reports of an accident between a motorcycle and car near 160 Birch Hill Road. First responders performed lifesaving efforts on the motorcyclist, but the South Berwick resident did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

The driver of the car, a 78-year-old York resident, was taken to Wentworth Douglas Hospital with a reported head injury.

The Maine Medical Examiner will determine the motorcyclist's cause of death. Police are still investigating and reconstructing the accident.
