Federal Jobs Minister Patty Hajdu has directed the Canada Industrial Relations Border to order Air Canada and the union representing its flight attendants to resume operations, while sending the labour dispute that grounded flights across the country to binding arbitration.
The Atlantic Canada Chamber of Commerce was among a number of business groups urging Ottawa to do what it could to help resolve the dispute, citing the impact on small business.
The union says flight attendants are regularly working necessary overtime without being compensated for the extra hours.
