CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - On Saturday, the drug overdose prevention group CRUSH hosted an overdose prevention fair at NewBo City Market in Cedar Rapids.

Local organizations talked about how they’re helping people struggling with substance abuse.

It also gave out Narcan - a nose spray that can reverse the effects of an overdose.

Overdose prevention is personal for CRUSH Executive Director Rod Courtney.

He lost his son Chad from a heroin overdose almost 10 years ago, and since then he’s worked to help save others.

“Things are improving. There’s still a lot of work to be done. There’s new substances, there’s new ones out there that are every bit as dangerous as heroin,” Courtney said.
