CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — The Clarksburg-Harrison Public Library is turning 50 years old this year, and the library is hosting a number of events to celebrate its history.

In a presentation on Saturday, former Mayor of Clarksburg Jim Hunt remembered his time in the National Guard and how one of their assignments was to move all the books from the Waldomore to the current building. Hunt read from a 1975 letter that the library sent to the National Guard asking for help and said that they moved 30,000 books over two days.

Hunt recalled, “We came up in military trucks, pulled into the back parking lot and took the books from the Waldomore into the new, beautiful building. And surprisingly enough, the building has stayed pretty much a very beautiful building.”
