COLUMBUS, Ohio — More than 100 Ohio National Guard members are set to deploy across Washington, D.C., following President Donald Trump's executive order to federalize local police forces in the nation’s capital.

The Secretary of the Army requested 150 military police from Ohio to assist the District of Columbia National Guard, according to a release from Gov. Mike DeWine’s office.

Trump has previously justified the adding of outside troops as an emergency response to crime and homelessness.

"These Ohio National Guard members will carry out presence patrols and serve as added security. None of these military police members are currently serving as law enforcement officers in the state of Ohio,” the release says.
