VINTON, La. (WAFB) - Louisiana State Police say a man is facing multiple charges after allegedly hijacking a construction crane and triggering several crashes on I-10 early Saturday, August 16.

Troopers say Matthew Vincent, 37, of Vinton, unlawfully entered the crane around 5:30 a.m. while it was parked in a work zone near LA-108. Detectives say he manipulated the boom over the westbound lanes, causing multiple vehicles to strike crane cables.

Officials say at least four crashes occurred, leaving two people injured, damaging the crane, and forcing a lengthy interstate closure.

Investigators say Vincent had earlier abandoned his truck in a nearby field before climbing into the crane.

He was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center on the following charges:
