The Huron-Clinton Metroparks Board of Commissioners is expected to vote next month on a recommendation by its staff to partially remove the Flat Rock Dam, though some Flat Rock officials and residents say they would've liked more say in the dam's future and want it to stay fully in place.
As part of the plan, rock arches would be installed instead to maintain wetlands and water levels in the impoundment behind the dam located on the Huron River near the intersection of Huron River Drive and Arsenal Drive, which, nearby residents say, has provided an important source of recreation for the area. Some are also concerned about how removing the dam could impact property values.
