Nearly a year after his death, Dallas officer's loved ones set sail to honor him

On Saturday evening, guests dressed in white and adorned with gold boarded a boat at Rockwall Harbor.

With a ringing of a bell, the birthday boat was ready to set sail– for a birthday boy who wasn’t there.

“It’s something that he never really wanted to do because he thought people would never come out if he was to have a party for himself,” said Lindsey Haggerty, with Pure Intentions Foundation, Inc.

“We’re showing him now that people will show up for him because he was loved,” said Greg Allmon, also with Pure Intentions Foundation, Inc.

Haggerty, Allmon, Craig Carter, and Andrea Scott threw the bash for Dallas Police Officer Darron Burks.

The birthday party falls between the day his life started– August 8th, and the day his watch ended– August 29th.
