A local church leader is recovering after being shot while on a mission trip, church officials say.
A spokesperson for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said President R. Tyler Wallis was shot once early Saturday morning during an attempted robbery at his home in Mexico City.
Wallis is reportedly responding well to treatment at a local hospital.
The church says Wallis and his wife lived in the Orlando area prior to their mission.
The attempted robbery is still under investigation.
