TOWNS COUNTY, Ga. — A 25-year-old man drowned at Lake Chatuge in Towns County early Saturday morning, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

It happened around 4 a.m. on the lake. The DNR reported that the man, identified as Brek Lewis Green, of Woodstock, was swimming in a cove with a friend. The two were using individual floats while swimming. They decided to swim to their dock and go inside.

Green's friend tried to get him to go inside, but he stayed behind while the friend briefly went indoors, according to the DNR.

When the friend returned, Green was missing.

The 25-year-old's disappearance led to a search that went on for hours.
