KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Police say two kids under the age of 16 were involved in a deadly shooting overnight into Sunday.

According to the Kansas City Police Department, officers were called to the 1700 block of E 97th Street around 12:15 a.m. on August 17.

A bystander told the officers that several people were arguing in a nearby parking lot when shots were fired. The people involved ran from the scene, while two went to a nearby hospital with gunshot wounds.

KCPD said the victims, one boy and one girl, were both under the age of 16. The boy died in the hospital, while the girl has non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident is being investigated as a homicide, and detectives do not currently have anyone in custody. It’s unclear how many people were involved.
