BROWNINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Getting a look back in time through lenses that aren’t looked through very often. You can explore Vermont’s revolutionary roots through the eyes and hands of 19th-century schoolgirls.

The Vermont Sampler Driving Tour is underway at historic sites across the state, including the Old Stone House Museum in Brownington.

Samplers are embroidered pieces made by young girls showing off their stitching skills, their education, and scenes from their lives.

“They’re a really unique artifact to learn about young girls in the 1800s, which is a hard demographic to study because they don’t often make the history books,” Krista Barry, with the museum, said.
