Developers of a planned 40-unit, five story condominium complex on the Nautical Mile will seek approval of a special land use permit extension at Monday’s St. Clair Shores City Council meeting that detractors have said will alter the look and feel of a lakefront jewel.

The existing special land use permit was approved in August 2023 and expires this month. The petitioners are seeking a one-year extension of the permit.

A special land use permit was required because zoning requirements in a central lakefront development district stipulate that a building may not be more than two stories high. The developers had to secure the permit in order to build the five-story structure as outlined in the site plan submitted to the city.
