A man shot a woman to death, then wounded a man who tried to intervene during their argument in the Harvard Heights community of Los Angeles, authorities said Sunday.

Officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of South St. Andrews Place, near Pico Boulevard and Western Avenue, at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The suspected gunman, a 60-year-old man, was arguing with a 50-year-old woman who began calling out for help, police said. A man in a vehicle pulled up to intervene, and the gunman shot the woman and the man.

Both victims were rushed to a hospital, where the woman died from her gunshot wound the man had stable vital signs, police said.

The gunman fled the scene on foot.
