Portland firefighters responded to an apartment fire near Northwest 23rd Ave and Northwest Northrup Street around 9 a.m. Sunday to find “heavy gray smoke” pouring from a second floor window.

Firefighters found a resident stuck on the top floor, the fire bureau said on social media, and rescued the person out of a third floor window.

They also cut a hole in the roof to release smoke from the attic.

The fire, which was extinguished within 10 minutes of the firefighters’ arrival, burned only one unit in the complex, the fire bureau said on social media, but at least three residents were displaced from their homes.

One person was taken to the hospital and a second person was given medical attention, the fire bureau said.
