Terence Stamp, an English actor known for his roles in “Superman” and “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert,” has died at 87.

Stamp’s family confirmed his passing on Sunday morning, according to Reuters . In their statement, they noted he “leaves behind an extraordinary body of work, both as an actor and as a writer that will continue to touch and inspire people for years to come.”

The family requested privacy and did not disclose the cause of death.

The actor’s career spanned decades, beginning with his Oscar-nominated film debut in 1962’s “Billy Budd,” for which he also received a BAFTA nomination, Parade noted. This start launched a career that saw Stamp take on roles across numerous genres.
