Mike Tomlin did not hesitate to point out the performances of his top two draft choices, Derrick Harmon and Kaleb Johnson, after Saturday night’s preseason loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Not all of it was a surprise.
Johnson, their third-round choice, ran more freely and had runs of 14, 9 and 8 yards among his team-high total of 50. It was a better showing than his preseason debut in Jacksonville and something Tomlin was hoping to see.
Harmon, though, did what he has basically been doing during training camp, registering one sack, a quarterback hurry and three tackles against the Buccaneers. It really wasn’t a whole lot different from what they’ve been seeing of their No. 1 draft pick, who has been very disruptive even without All-Pro defensive end Cam Heyward participating.
