Air Canada and its low-cost arm, Air Canada Rouge, announced that they will suspend plans to resume operations today after the labor union said it would defy a return-to-work order. The decision comes shortly after the Canadian national airline had indicated it would restart flights this evening, following a government order for employees to return to work.

The labor action, led by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), representing Air Canada flight attendants, focuses on demands for better working conditions, compensation for unpaid work, and higher wages. The carrier had previously locked out 10,000 flight attendants after they launched a strike on August 16, 2025.
