This past weekend was packed with events celebrating nearly forty years of Flint Hills Beef Fest. Originally established as a consortium of cattlemen in 1986, the organization has grown to include a host of events of interest to Flint Hills grass cattle producers. Friday night featured the Ranch Feed barbecue dinner followed by the Ranch Rodeo.

“It’s a little warm this evening, but between this really good brisket dinner and the ranch rodeo, it’s worth it,” Flint Hills Beef Fest board member and Lyon County Extension Agent Brian Rees noted.

The Bowyer Building at the Lyon County Fairgrounds was packed with ranchers and their families Friday night. “Well, we plan to serve between 400 and 450 meals tonight at the ranch feed,” Dan Schneider, owner and pitmaster at An Ol’ Man and His Smoker,
