With voices lifted in song and a final salute to fallen comrades, Emporia residents gathered Sunday afternoon to close out four days of reflection at The Wall That Heals. This traveling Vietnam Veterans Memorial replica drew thousands to town.
Organizers, veterans, and community members assembled for a closing ceremony honoring both those named on the wall and the volunteers who helped bring the exhibit to Emporia.
“This has been an incredible amount of support from the community, and beyond that made this happen,” an organizer told the crowd. “We could not have done it without our volunteers, our sponsors, and everyone who gave of their time and resources.”
More than 200 people contributed to the effort, from setting up and staffing the exhibit to preparing for its dismantling. Attende
