QUINCY (WGEM) - The Quincy government was able to help students with lunch debt recently.
For some students, getting the money for school lunch can be a challenge. However, the city of Quincy was able to rally together to help.
“I’m not surprised. Quincy is an incredibly charitable and giving community,” said Quincy Mayor Linda Moore.
In 2018, an Illinois state law was passed which said no student could be denied a meal by a school. However, some debts had accumulated by students.
Moore reached out to some city officials and in the end, she said more and more people were reaching out to pitch in.
“We have so many people and so many organizations that really care about each other and care about others,” Moore explained.
Moore has since worked with Horizons, a local food pantry to help
