GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - The man who had to sell Gainesville Country Club to cover $2,000,000 of debt is running for mayor of New York City.

Joseph Hernandez, who auctioned off the country club last year, announced his mayoral bid in New York City last month.

He said he was running there because he doesn’t like the policies proposed by one frontrunner for mayor, Zohran Mamdani.

He is a Gator alumnus and currently lives in New York.
