Before the Hornets surge into a challenging schedule that includes the Aug. 29 opener against the visiting Muskogee Roughers, along with a Sept. 5 challenge at Del City, Booker T. Washington already has recorded one very important victory: the retention of its talent.

When Nate Goodman was introduced as the new BTW coach during the spring, he addressed a persistent problem: the annual raid of impactful Hornets by other programs in the Tulsa area.

Over the last few years, it was common for Booker T. football athletes to move to championship-contending schools in 6AI.

Goodman’s first priority was to preach to his players about Booker T. tradition and pride.
