Construction will cause a long-term detour for motorists in the Harrisburg area starting next Sunday Aug. 24.
PennDOT announced the ramp from 19th Street to I-83 north will be closed around 9 p.m. Sunday, August 24, until the new 19th Street bridge and interchange is completed. A new northbound ramp with a new alignment will be constructed.
The work is expected to be completed by Oct. 12, 2027.
Without access to the ramp, travelers will have to take Paxton Street east to 32nd Street, turn left, then turn right at Wayne Street to get to I-83 north.
In addition to the closure, there will be rolling stops on Aug. 24 along I-83 north so sign work can be completed. There will also be rolling stops of up to 15 minutes for northbound travelers between midnight and 5 a.m. on Aug 25.
