Friday was a waiting game as we watched those ominous clouds rolling in from the west. Meanwhile, to our north, moderate to heavy rain was falling from an unusual summer atmospheric river.

Forecasts in the Northern Washington Cascades were for 5 inches or more to fall. In the fire-prone Olympic Mountains, upward of 4 inches was forecast, helping to put out the Bear Gulch Fire up there.

Locally, the frontal passage and heaviest rain was expected Friday evening and overnight. How much rain? About one-half to 1 inch. That should be enough to water the lawn and garden for a few days.

It is interesting how some parts of Clark County had heavy rain in June and July and now potentially August. What an unpredictable summer. Who would have thought this pattern would persist?
