SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Special Olympics South Dakota was busy this weekend, hosting its Southeast Area Tournaments, and getting athletes ready for this year’s State Fall Classic.

More than 500 Special Olympics athletes competed this weekend in softball and bocce, with participants coming from all over East River.

The tournaments also had the help of more than 50 volunteers to keep them running.

For the athletes, it’s a great way to meet others and tune up their skills before the statewide tournament next month.

“It’s just been a busy weekend. I played bocce today, won one, lost one game, and won both of our games in softball,” Special Olympics athlete Ashley Clark said.
