When the Desert Mountain Wolves host Saguaro in their Aug. 29 season opener, there won’t be dozens of seniors hoping to start out strong.
There will be 11.
While seventh-year coach Conrad Hamilton has a healthy total number of athletes in pads overall, there will only be 11 returning seniors hoping to lead the Wolves on a deep run into the 5A Conference playoffs.
“Last year, almost all of our skill guys were seniors,” Hamilton said. “The upside for the classes of 2027 and 2028 are as good as we’ve had.”
Hamilton said aside from a few returning lettermen linemen, the Wolves, who went 8-3 and made the Open Division playoff bracket last year, will expect to do a lot with little experience. Much of what positive happens this year will be done by transfers or players who were freshmen or so
