MAINE, USA — Former Maine CDC Director Dr. Nirav Shah says he's considering entering Maine's race for governor.

He told the Portland Press Herald on Friday that he would run as a Democrat.

Shah, of Brunswick, said he's not committed to running and didn't have an estimate of when he'd make the decision, according to the Press Herald.

He would join a growing field for the 2026 race to replace Gov. Janet Mills, who cannot seek reelection. Shah would compete against several leading Democrats, including Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows , former Senate President Troy Jackson , Hannah Pingree —a former Mills administration official and daughter of Rep. Chellie Pingree—and Angus King III , a renewable energy businessman and son of Sen. Angus King.
