MINNEAPOLIS — A former Maple Grove teacher has been sentenced for criminal sexual conduct after students came forward saying he touched them inappropriately at school.

Wayne Clifford Wallace was a fifth-grade teacher at Basswood Elementary School when multiple girls said he touched them during class while they were students in 2022-23. The former students told investigators that Wallace's actions made them feel uncomfortable. The actions included having students sit on his lap, touching their buttocks, and demanding a kiss from a student in exchange for candy, according to the criminal complaint.

Wallace was convicted on four counts of fifth degree criminal sexual conduct. This week, he was sentenced to 60 days in the Hennepin County Adult Corrections Facility. A sentence of 364 days i
