SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – Some Santa Fe County residents pleaded with local officials to stop a solar farm project from taking its next step, over safety concerns. But others say the project will have lasting positive impacts.

"I'm here to express my unequivocal opposition to this project, as currently proposed," said one public commenter.

Over three days, over 150 public testimonies were presented to Santa Fe county commissioners, all to decide the future of a proposed solar farm south of Santa Fe. "In my opinion, there are so many things that are good about this project and so few downsides that it is self-evidently worthwhile," said another public commenter.

AES is the energy company asking commissioners for a conditional use permit to move forward with the Rancho Viejo solar project.
