ELKO COUNTY, Nev. (KOLO) - The Cottonwood Peak Fire has burned through 28,000 acres, according to a Bureau of Land Management Nevada Facebook post at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 17.

To date, it has cost more than $2 million to fight, according to the Sunday, Aug. 17, National Interagency Fire Center Incident Management Situation Report.

The brush and grass blaze near Tuscarora in Elko County is 10% contained, the report said.

The blaze is showing extreme fire behavior with running, wind-driven runs, and flanking.

The fire has reached the perimeter of the Ormat Geothermal Power Plant, the report said. Structure protection is in place for ranches along Highway 226.
