LOS ANGELES CHARGERS star Quentin Johnston was taken to hospital after suffering a horror head injury.

The 23-year-old was knocked out during Saturday's preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams .

Johnston was tracking a pass from Justin Herbert in the first quarter when Rams ace Tanner Ingle clattered into him.

Contact was seemingly made under his helmet and the wide receiver immediately collapsed to the floor.

He displayed "fencing posture", which is a term used when the arms are in an unnatural position after suffering a concussion.

Medics rushed over to him amid the worrying scenes.

He remained motionless on the deck for several minutes.

But after checks on the field, Johnston first began to move his arms and legs.
