In a gesture supporting more affordable housing, the Nelson County Board Supervisors waived sewer connection fees for a new apartment project in Roseland.

The Nelson County Community Development Foundation (NCCDF), a local nonprofit, is constructing a few duplexes on St. James Place in Roseland within the service area of the county-owned Piney River water and sewer system. The board’s waiver approved on Aug. 12 is for four connections for the St. James Place Roseland Apartments that broke ground the last week in July.

The plan for the project was first presented to the board of supervisors in 2022. NCCDF is using federal grant money through the American Rescue Plan Act to address the need for homelessness assistance and supportive services, and has access to $347,405.
