MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) -- Suburban Hospital in Bethesda experienced some disruptions after lightning struck in the area Sunday night, according to officials.

Details are limited; however, Pete Piringer with the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) said a power surge took place at the hospital at around 9 p.m., knocking out the air conditioning, as well as the CT and MRI scans.

The surge, which triggered a Code Black at the hospital, was prompted by lightning strikes in the area as thunderstorms rolled across the county. A Code Black is activated when a "significant, unexpected disruption" within the hospital impacts the facility's ability to care for patients.

As of Monday morning, it is unclear whether the hospital is still seeing impacts.
