NORMAN — Robert Spears-Jennings solidified himself as a starting safety for Oklahoma last season, but with Billy Bowman Jr. now gone to the NFL, the Sooners have to fill in alongside “RSJ” in the secondary.
To that end, junior Peyton Bowen and sophomore Reggie Powers III have been waging quite the battle in fall camp as they compete for the starting role at strong safety.
Bowen, a former five-star recruit, has been limited by injuries during his first two seasons in Norman. But after sitting out during spring practice and recovering from a foot injury that lingered from last season, he’s fully healthy and playing his best ball in fall camp.
