REDDING, Calif. - The Lake Redding Regatta made a vibrant return along the Sacramento River, drawing hundreds of spectators to Lake Redding Park. The event featured a variety of boat races, from crew boats to stand-up paddleboards, over the weekend.

The regatta is not just about racing; it celebrates Redding's rich history. Danny Orloff, a co-director of the event, was inspired by a historic sign on the Diestelhorst Bridge to revive the regatta, once Redding's biggest community celebration in the 1930s.

"They would do boat races, swimming races, diving competitions, log rolling, beauty pageants, dancing under the stars," Orloff said. "They would have boxing matches at the Cascade Theater because it was the first place with air conditioning."
