A Leicestershire carer has shared his “full-circle” journey which saw him go from “needing a lifeline” to “becoming one for others”. Wayne Pearson left behind full-time employment on two separate occasions to focus his attention on caring for his unwell parents. Throughout his experience, which began three decades ago, he has faced many challenges which saw his mental health decline.
Wayne first took on the role back in the 1990s, when he started caring for his unwell father “with no formal training” and “few resources”. He left his full-time job , and navigated the world of unpaid caregiving alone. After his father died in hospital , Wayne returned to work whilst continuing to support his mum, who remained independent for many years.
