SAYREVILLE, New Jersey (WABC) -- The man convicted of murdering a New Jersey councilwoman in 2023 was sentenced Monday to life in prison.

In June, a jury found Rashid Ali Bynum guilty of shooting and killing Eunice Dwumfour two years ago in her car in Sayreville.

Prosecutors say the two knew each other from church where she served as pastor.

The 30-year-old councilwoman's death sparked a manhunt, leading to Bynum's arrest in Virginia four months later.

The family of the victim clapped as Bynum was taken out of court.
