BUTTE — The first annual Montana High School All-Star Baseball Game was not without defining moments: a packed 3 Legends Stadium, an auction, red fez Shriners hats, a game-delaying storm.
But the biggest moment was probably the first play of the game, when Belgrade’s Ryas Olson made history as he became the first player to bat in the inaugural game.
He made that moment count too, with a smartly hit line drive that carried him to a triple for the East team.
“I love hitting first so you can set the tone, and hitting a triple is just going to help so much,” Olson said. “Maybe without it, the game doesn’t end up how it was.”
Set the tone Olson did, as the East, riding off of early momentum, ended up notching the win for the first Montana baseball Shriners-affiliated event, 15-5.
