ALPENA — The Michigan Department of Transportation will invest $3.3 million to repave 12.6 miles of M-32 from Haas Road in Montmorency County to east of the Alpena County line starting Sept. 2.

According to an Aug. 18 news release, the project, located near Atlanta and Hillman, is expected to run through Nov. 10. Work will require single-lane closures with traffic regulators.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said the investment is part of the state’s ongoing effort to repair and replace roads and bridges without raising taxes. By the end of this construction season, Whitmer said, nearly 24,500 lane miles of roads and 1,900 bridges will have been addressed, supporting thousands of jobs.

Based on economic modeling, the project is expected to directly and indirectly support 31 jobs.
