CLACKAMAS COUNTY, Ore. — A standoff with Lake Oswego police responding to reports of a domestic assault incident on Thursday ended after the accused man died in a fire that started during the standoff.

Responding to a report of domestic assault by the unnamed girlfriend of the deceased man at about 10.30 pm Thursday at the house on Timberline Drive, police made phone contact with the man, who made threatening statements to the responders.

The man’s girlfriend had safely left the location before officers arrived. But the man, who has not been publicly identified, refused to exit the house.

Shortly after the man threatened to set the house on fire, officers on scene reported seeing smoke and flames coming from the home. Firefighters from several area agencies responded to the home.
